The Glaze Pavilion needs a new home

Help us upcycle the Glaze pavilion!

Gx Glass is a proud sponsor of Clerkenwell Design Week 2015 and specialist glass supplier to the ‘Glaze’ pavilion project.
The Glaze pavilion has been designed to be re-usable as a structure, as well as making sure the component parts could be recycled or upcycled.

When the pavilion is decommissioned later this year we would love to see it turned into items for interior use - it could be a table, a feature wall or even another installation!

We would love you to submit your idea for upcycling Glaze*, either part or whole, using just the glass, the frame or both.

  • The brief is open from 19th May 2015 until 30th October 2015.
  • Submit your ideas in writing, with .PDF or .JPG visuals to glaze@gxglass.com alongside your full name, organisation and contact details.

For full details, plus technical considerations please visit: www.gxglass.com/upcyclegxglaze

*Terms and conditions apply. See www.gxglass.com/upcyclegxglaze for full details

Gx Glass’ innovative approach to interior glass is being harnessed by leading architects Cousins & Cousins to help create a stunning glass pavilion at this year’s Clerkenwell Design Week.

Taking place between 19th and 21st May, Clerkenwell Design Week is the UK’s leading independent design festival and attracts the great and good of the international design community.

The pavilion, called ‘Glaze’, will be located on St John’s Square and draws on the heritage of Clerkenwell as a centre of design and manufacture.

‘Glaze’ will be constructed of multi-coloured glass panels made from a variety of products such as back painted and ceramic printed glass, giving visitors the opportunity to walk through a Murano glass inspired visual wonder.

Fully demountable and designed to be reusable, the installation highlights and celebrates the versatility of interior glass, the wide range of colours available and the scope of surface designs that makes glass an important medium through which designers and architects can realise their ideas.

Martin Lush, managing director at Gx Glass, said: “We are delighted to be involved in this project and look forward to showcasing our range of glass products to show the breadth of design possibilities for interior glass. The pavilion has been designed to offer an engaging and inspirational space for the duration of the event and we look forward to welcoming visitors to ‘Glaze’.”

Jelena Cousins, director of Cousins & Cousins said: “Cousins & Cousins is delighted to be working with Gx Glass’ amazing range to create a pavilion which will be showcased at Clerkenwell Design Week. Gx Glass has offered us the opportunity to create a magical, technicolour structure. ‘Glaze’ will show off the fantastic Gx product range, playing with the juxtaposition and shift of colour and light as you walk through it.”

Gx Glass are one of the sponsors for Clerkenwell Design Week 2015, and we have been working with architects Cousins & Cousins, who have designed the beautiful Murano glass inspired 'Glaze' pavilion.

The stripey sweet coloured panels change between opaque and transparent and is designed to showcase and celebrate the versatility of glass, and the advances in the surface designs which make glass an important medium through which designers and architects can realise their ideas.

The pavilion will be situated on St John's Square and draws on the heritage of Clerkenwell as a centre of design and manufacture, such as the former Victorian glassworks at the Farmiloe Building.

We will post updates on this project as we countdown to May and don't forget to register to attend the show, which takes places in Clerkenwell between the 19th-21st May 2015.

Gx talks bespoke at UK Construction Week

 UK Construction Week 2016

Our business development manager, Joanna Lush, recently took part in a seminar at UK Construction Week - the UK’s largest built environment event.  The event organisers invited Joanna and a host of other experts to speak about the pivotal role that bespoke design has played in transforming the appearance of both homes and workplaces.

Comprising nine different shows, including Smart Buildings and Surface Materials Show, this year’s UK Construction Week played host to 1000 exhibitors and saw more than 50,000 people walk through the doors.  Joanna spoke on the first day of the bustling event, alongside designers and directors from renowned names such as Material Lab, Daniel Heath Studio and Smile Plastics.

Joanna said: “We offer one of the largest and most comprehensive ranges of decorative flat glass products anywhere in the UK and we’re proud to say a significant amount of what we do is bespoke.

“It was great to share the stage with people that share our belief that bespoke solutions are the lifeblood of innovative interior design.”
